What are Busuu Conversations and how can they help me learn a language?

Imagine practicing a speech in front of the mirror, and the mirror itself giving you instant, accurate feedback! That's exactly what Busuu Conversations is all about—helping learners improve by doing, in a comfortable and judgment-free zone.

As you learn grammar and expand your vocabulary in your chosen language, you can then apply what you’ve learned in realistic speaking scenarios with generative AI technology.

Where can I find it?

Simply open the Busuu app and select the Speak button at the bottom of the screen, and start conversing! You’ll also see Conversations in the lesson timeline as you work through your course.

Excited to practice? Choose the scenario you’d like to work on! You’ll find the relevant level according to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) for each scenario. This recognized standard helps tailor your language lessons. It’s also a great way to understand what to expect and make the most of your practice sessions.

This feature is currently available only on the iOS version of the Busuu app. As we continue improving the Busuu experience, we aim to release Conversations on other platforms in the future.

You can try out Conversations a limited number of times before subscribing. Once you run out of tries, you will need a Premium subscription for unlimited access to the feature.

How does it work?

Once you opt in to getting targeted vocabulary and grammar feedback, you’re ready to go!

1. Each scenario will have a specific goal. Keep this in mind as you speak with the Busuu character (powered by generative AI)!
2. You’ll get a message from the character in the scenario right away. When you’re ready, simply tap and hold the button to respond.
3. Enjoy your conversation until you’ve reached the attempt limit.
4. Wait for your conversation to be analyzed. This will be done at the end, so you won’t be distracted by corrections as you work on your conversation skills.
5. Review your feedback:
   
   • Your correct messages will be marked with .
   • Messages with room for improvement will be marked with .

We strive to give accurate and helpful information, but please be aware that the AI’s responses may occasionally have incorrect answers.
